Tuesday Tallies - Catastrophe strikes

Hi everyone,

OK, I know catastrophe is a massive exaggeration but last night I really felt as though the world had ended. I ran out of yarn for the join with one row and three squares to join. I guess that's what happens when you don't plan a project properly.

I ordered another ball this morning but I know there's as much chance of getting the same dye lot as there is of me winning the lotto(which I didn't buy a ticket for).

I was super bummed last night over this mistake but this morning things are in perspective. I'm forced to take a break now from the blanket while I wait for the yarn so I can do some Christmas crochet instead. This led me to another thought, I follow of a lot of blogs and websites of people who crochet/knit/sew/felt etc, everyone there is excited about Christmas. Whereas in the offline world where people shop for their presents the majority of people complain about how much they hate Christmas. I wonder is that why people who create their own presents love Christmas because they are eliminating a lot of the commercial hectic Christmas world.

To check out everyone else's progress head on over to Gingerbread Girls Blog. I must go now and investigate a strange odour coming from my son, perhaps its due to the inclusion of peas and broccoli in his food. Oh this weaning is so much fun :)

Until next time,

Happy Crocheting, x

P.S. I promise to put up my post about Ben's christening gown, I was waiting for a photo of him on his big day but since I didn't take any photos on the day I must wait for guests to email me some photos. This is taking too long so I will post with just photos of the gown.

  1. How annoying running out of wool. I hope it arrives soon.
I completely agree about the whole 'home made Christmas'. This year I have tried to make as much as possible and am so excited, I can't wait for family and friends to open their presents.

  2. I'm sure this is a timely break to indulge in some quick Christmas makes....and when you're done those, your yarn (with the same dye lot) will have arrived.

I am making. Lot of our presents this year, I'm not too panicked yet, but there is time for all that still. I'm not normally awkward but I've resigned myself to not caring if people want homemade or not! I'm making things I like....and I've got exceptionally good taste;-)

Don't stress on the yarn, think Christmas!

  3. I so agree with you! I have enjoyed Christmas so much more since I started crocheting after my mom died almost 5 years ago. My kids and other mother (in law)love my crochet gifts. Pop over to my blog and see what messes I have gotten myself into for this year with only 26 days to go. :)
lazydaisycrochet.blogspot.com. Hope your yarn gets there soon!! Have a great day and have fun on the Christmas goodies!

  4. Too bad you ran out of yarn, but I don't think it will be a very big problem if the dye is a bit off. The colorful squares will steel the show!

I have never thought about Christmas in the way you describe, but I think you're right! It's so fun to be making homemade gifts and decorations!

  5. Oh that has happened to me and it's so frustrating! But as you say, the perfect excuse for a break.

I'm not making any gifts - I have a few things I've made and put aside previously that I will be gifting - but the kids are making gift tags and cards and things like that and it's really fun, although frustrating for me as they are imperfect and I have to let that go!!! :)

  6. Oh no, how frustrating but at least you can start some of your Christmas makes. I think your right about crafters enjoying Christmas more, it is all part of the fun. I look forward to seeing your new projects.xxx

  7. oh no that is worthy of a major melt down I'm sure the yarn will be ok though. I'm not making any gifts for christmas as it has just snuck upon me (it always does) and I have too many non christmas crafts going on. But I do love christmas and I do love making things to give so next year maybe I'll combine them. xx

  8. If you can't find the yarn you need try looking on Ravelry to see if anyone has it in their stash...there might be someone somewhere who will sell it to you! I'm making lots of pressies too...and had never thought that it saves me from the commercial rush... I love it even more now! :)x

  9. Hope you find your yarn. And yes, I think those of us who make our gifts enjoy the holiday a lot more and have so much fun.
